Some evenings stay in your mind not for their plot, but for the feeling they leave behind. For me, such an evening was at Tropicana – one of those places where history is not told, but danced.

A Night When Havana Dances
Havana is Passion. I’ve already told you about it! It’s not something you watch – it’s something you feel. You walk through its streets, and it’s as if the echo of the past is in the air – from the Cuban rhythms, from the raspy voice of Chavela Vargas, from the roar of a Cadillac slowly driving down the Malecón. And when night falls… it has only one name: Tropicana.

The Legend of Cabaret Under the Stars
Opened in 1939, Club Tropicana quickly became a symbol of Cuban nightlife. But it was never just a nightclub – it is a stage for fantasy, where feathers fly, cocktails sparkle, and bodies dance in rhythm as if life and death depend on it. Located in a tropical garden under the open sky, Tropicana is more than a venue – it’s a cultural phenomenon.

In the years before the Revolution, Hemingway, Marlon Brando, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and even Al Capone would visit, spending entire nights at a table by the stage. Tropicana was the “Vegas of the Caribbean,” but with a Cuban soul.
Modern Luxury with a Slight Retro Twist
Today, Tropicana continues to live in its original glamour. The shows start around 9:00 PM and last until around 11:30 PM, but I recommend arriving earlier to truly soak in the atmosphere.
They offer three zones – the VIP section by the stage, the central zone (where we were), and the more distant section. We chose the middle zone – an excellent balance between price and view, with tickets costing 77 euros per person (as of April 2023).

Included in the price are:
- A bottle of Havana Club rum
- Two bottles of Coca-Cola
- “Welcome drink” (of course, rum-based)
- And the most important part – a ticket to a show that you can’t see anywhere else.
A Show That Speaks The Language of Cuba.
What Happens on Stage is a True Visual Explosion – Dozens of Dancers, Rhythm, Bold Costumes with Feathers, Sequins, and Colors from Another World. Each Performance Tells a Part of Cuba’s Story – Its African Roots, Spanish Influence, Colonial Past, Revolution, and Modern Identity.

The Whole Time, You Don’t Just Watch a Dance – You Experience a Ritual Where Music and History Merge. You Hear the Rhythm of Rumba, Guaguancó, Mambo, Even Jazz… and Feel How the Audience – Tourists from All Over the World – Gradually Become Part of the Performance.

Even I got up on the stage! It was incredible, because when the official part ended, the dancers invited the audience onto the stage. I watched as everyone enthusiastically rushed forward, and I thought to myself: “Why not – this is Tropicana, and if I don’t get up there now, then when?” I got up, danced, and had a blast… a moment that will forever live in my memory and heart.

Is It Worth the Price?
Yes, there are plenty of opinions you’ll read online – that it’s expensive, that you could see a similar show in more affordable places, that it’s a “tourist trap.” And all of that is partially true.

But this is Tropicana. This is Havana.
And how often does one come to Cuba, really?

Sometimes, value isn’t just in what you see, but in what you feel. And personally, I was captivated. Because that night wasn’t just a performance – it was an emotion.
Where History and Nightlife Embrace
Tropicana is the place where Cuba is most itself – loud, colorful, rebellious, and magnetic. Every sip of rum, every sway of the hips, every smile from the performers – it all takes you back to a time when the world was louder, but also more passionate.

To Wrap It Up
If you’re in Havana for just one night, let it be at Tropicana.
Leave behind your watches, schedules, and plans. Dress in a smile, pour yourself some rum, and let the music lead you. Because here, under the open Cuban sky, you won’t just be watching a show – you’ll be experiencing something that will stay with you long after the lights go out and your plane takes off.

Tropicana isn’t just a show – it’s a living legend. It’s one of those nights that don’t repeat – they’re remembered.
A night when time stands still and the rhythm takes over.

And when you leave Havana, and somewhere far from the Caribbean you catch the scent of tropical night air or hear the sounds of salsa drifting through the air, you’ll smile.
Because you’ll know – you were there.
At Tropicana.
On a night that will stay with you forever.
