About me

Hello!
I’m Ivan Krastev, 39 years old from Sofia, Bulgaria – the person behind every article and photo on this blog. I love sharing interesting and useful stories from around the world, inspired by my travels.

For years, I have worked in the financial and banking sectors, but in my free time, my passion is traveling. Since I was a child, I imagined one day being among those busy, suited men who exit the subway and head to their offices in the skyscrapers of London’s City. That dream came true.

But something was always missing. The walls of the office seemed to suffocate me, while my soul longed for freedom, new horizons, and unknown places.

Don’t expect to read that I quit my job, went on a world journey, and after years of wandering, became a professional travel blogger. No, I still work in the corporate world, but over time, traveling became an integral part of my life.

I successfully balance my career with traveling, and the truth is, I love both. My job doesn’t prevent me from discovering new places, and traveling enriches me, making my daily life even more colorful.

23% of the world – and I keep going 🗺

I can’t escape the statistic we, travel bloggers, often use to measure our adventures.
So far, I’ve visited 4 continents, 35 countries, and over 250 amazing places worldwide. That’s 23% of the planet – a figure that keeps growing because the thirst for traveling never ends!

How “Profession: Traveler” Was Born

Traveling has always been a part of my life. Since I was a child, I was fascinated by new places, cultures, and people I encountered during my travels. My first trip abroad was when I was two years old – although I don’t remember it, my parents often talked about our journey by ship to the Romanian resort of Constanța.

However, my first conscious adventure was the trip to Prague when I was five. I remember walking across Charles Bridge, how my parents bought me some sweets, which I dropped into the river while watching the swans. I cried, but they got me another one, and that childhood experience stayed with me forever. The most vivid memory I have is the Astronomical Clock and the metro – the first train I saw underground. I was so amazed that as I was going down the escalator, I trembled with excitement.

If a trip at the age of five could excite me so much, imagine how quickly and deeply my passion for new destinations grew over the following years.
As time passed, my travels became more frequent, and each new adventure brought countless stories that I couldn’t wait to share with my friends. They listened attentively, looked at my photos, and our conversations always ended with a bunch of questions:

  • How did you organize the trip?
  • Where did you stay?
  • What did you see?
  • What do you recommend?

I happily shared information and even helped friends plan their trips. The feeling that I had inspired them to visit new places was incredible. And when they returned and told me about their experiences, I felt like I was sharing in their excitement.

Thus, in 2020, “Profession: Traveler” was born – a place where I could share my experiences, inspire others, and help people travel.

I know how difficult it can be to plan a trip to an unfamiliar place. That’s why I always strive to provide useful, comprehensive, and honest information – not holding anything back, even when the reality isn’t as glamorous.
Besides practical tips, I also share stories that are often unknown to tourists because I believe that traveling is not just about visiting destinations but about discovering new worlds.
If what I share inspires you and helps you make your dream trips come true, then I’m on the right path.

My Literary Footprint 📖

Books and reading are another great passion of mine. Since I was a child, I have found true pleasure in immersing myself in the world of literature. I remember how my elementary school teacher was surprised that an eight-year-old child spent his free time reading the crime series “Chinese Puzzles” by Robert van Gulik.

For me, books are like journeys – they transport you to new worlds, enrich you, and reveal incredible stories, distant places, and exciting people. I loved spending time in school libraries and bookstores. The hours spent there made me forget everything and dream – one day, my own book would be on those shelves.

In 2021, that dream came true. My debut book, “Profession: Traveler”, was released. It features nine stories from my adventures in Thailand, Singapore, Egypt, Tunisia, Mexico, Italy, and more exciting destinations across four continents.

At the end of 2024, my second book was released – “The Non-Guide to Italy from A to Z”. In it, I gathered stories from my travels to Italy over the last 15 years. Through the lens of a passionate traveler who loves to share personal experiences, I presented Italy in all its glory. Through walks to almost every interesting place in the country, I introduced readers to the local way of life, culture, history, and cuisine.

A few months after the release of my first book in 2021, I had the honor of becoming a member of the Bulgarian Association of Journalists and Writers in Tourism – ABUJET. In the spring of 2022, the book “Anthology of Mirages” was released, in which I was a co-author along with 50 renowned writers and travel journalists, members of ABUJET.

Each passing year, my passion for traveling and literature intertwines even more strongly, inspiring me to tell my stories and share them with the world.
